Matcha Tea as tea should taste

Matcha. Tea as tea should taste

Do you know Matcha? Tea powder that not only tastes great as tea, but can also be used to bake a cake or cookies. Before you can drink a cup of tea, there are a few actions that need to be taken, which is perhaps what makes the tea so delicious and distinctive.

Green tea powder

During the Blogger by Nature event I was introduced to Mr. Mario Golf: Super Rush&MrsTea. They were at the Networking Square and I got to try a cup of Matcha with them. Mr&MrsTea is a web store with lots of different kinds of tea. At this event they served Matcha.

Green powder tea and this is a little different from what I normally drink.

Mr&MrsTea

I love tea. Many times I wrote about different teas I drink. I drink loose tea as well as tea in bags. And I enjoy discovering new flavors all the time, especially if it’s my first time using a powder in addition to a new flavor.

I had never heard of tea powder or Matcha before.

What is Matcha?

Matcha is green tea from Japan. Matcha is a powdered tea and is therefore consumed differently than tea with loose leaves or tea bags. The powder is quickly dissolved in a liquid such as water or milk. Matcha is known as the superfood among superfoods, it contains 10x more antioxidants than normal green tea and gives you an increased ability to concentrate.

It helps to lower your stress levels, increases mental clarity, stimulates better learning performance, counteracts aging effects and improves fat burning.

Making tea with green powder?

Preparing Matcha is a special event. You scoop a teaspoon of Matcha into a bowl, add a little cold water and whisk until the powder is well dissolved. Then you let the water you put on warm up to 80 degrees ( I have a special button for this on my kettle). So don’t cook it.

You pour the water with the powder and whisk the tea with the bamboo whisk. Do not splurge, but keep knocking in an M, so to speak. If there is foam on it you can pour it into a glass.

It is quite difficult to get a head of foam on it, but practice makes perfect.

The taste

The taste of Matcha is very natural. You can smell it when you are preparing it. It tastes like tea should. The taste is not overpowering and there is a nice mild after taste.

The water has not boiled, so it takes some getting used to that you can drink the tea right away. I read that Matcha is also great with milk. Although I already really like it this way, I want to try a Matcha Latte as well.

Recipes on the site

Besides this green Japanese tea you can find on the site of Mr. Matcha&Mrstea also plenty of other varieties. Think white tea, Oolong, Royal delft or black tea. The site clearly explains the taste of all the varieties.
