The Night Watchmen, the exciting sequel to the New World Series
We had to wait a while for it but the latest book in the New World series by Bernadette Lugies has been released. The Night Watchmen is the exciting sequel to The Claiming Ritual and picks up where the first book left off. The first book is terribly good and in this second book Bernadette manages to surprise again with different plots and exciting twists and turns.
Fantasy, Young adults
The Claiming Ritual and also The Night’s Watchers is a book in the fantasy book and Young Adults genre. Besides the fact that my sons really liked the first book and could also use it for their book list for Dutch, I myself am also very excited about Bernadette Lugies’ writing style. The Claiming Ritual was so good, I couldn’t wait for part 2. De Nachtwachters has been on sale since May 26.
Back to The Claiming Ritual
What is the first book ‘The Claiming Ritual about:
17 years ago, an electromagnetic pulse brought the world to a standstill. Sophie’s village was taken over by the army and from then on the general determined what happened in the village. But it’s now 17 years later and Sophie is more than fed up with old-fashioned thinking. She opposes the army and the claiming ritual. She also begins to doubt more and more the words of the general and the purpose of the army in her village. To make matters worse, she is forced by the general to work with the arrogant lieutenant Jason Bane. After a brief encounter with the rebel leader, her world is turned upside down. She doubts her father’s death and the true story behind the rebels’ involvement in his death. Will Sophie manage to stay true to herself now that her life is changing so much. And who can she still trust in the village?
A new world
Bernadette Lugies has invented a whole world of her own in this New World series a world where poverty and wealth are very evident, where there is nothing for the poor to eat, there is danger on every street corner, electricity no longer exists and where slavery is commonplace. The world is divided and you are no longer sure of your life. Because of how the book is written you can feel the atmosphere going on and form the images in your head of what it should look like.
The Night Watchmen
The Night’s Watchmen begins where The Claiming Ritual ended. Sophie joins Jason, Marja, Eliot, Aram and Alex in their search for Anna. The world is a world of poverty and misery. The six must fight for their existence, but for what. Sophie realizes all too well that although she is looking for Anna, she won’t actually be able to go back with her to where she came from. After all, Sophie staged her own death in order to live in freedom.
The story
As Sophie and the rest search for Anna, you live along with their adventures. Every time they seem to be near Anna, yet they keep losing her. While searching for Anna they discover The Night Watchmen, a group of former police officers. Here Sophie finds out that one of these night watchmen is the man who killed her father.
Sophie, Jason and the others try to free Anna, but it is not without a struggle. Along the way, they have to overcome many hurdles, experience exciting moments and sometimes you don’t know who you can and cannot trust, because is everyone who they say they are?.
A book for Young Adults
The Night Watchman is a book to be read in one breath. Young people who have trouble reading Dutch books for their book list will be happy with The Night Watchmen, because it is so exciting, you want to keep reading it. The book is written in children’s language, so it will appeal to them.
